Tuhlen

Tuhlen is the name describing a certain tribe of Men, but it has also become synonymous with the land in which they live, the northern plains from the sea to the Mountains of Separation, and as far west as the Lorsei River. Since the Tuhlen are a wandering people who follow the migration of the reindeer and elk herds, a traveler in these lands would not encounter any cities. Indeed, he would not see any villages either unless he traveled in the south, along the northern border of the mountains, where an occasional mining town might be found. Such villages are ruled by an elder miner, and that is the extent of their government. Since there is no king, each migrating group, called a cali, is its own authority. A cali is not strictly a family but more like an extended family, with friends mixed in, all bound by the bonds of blood or honor (in the case of a life-debt or some other such bond). It is not uncommon for two cali to find they are following the same herd or one to unwittingly cross into the territory of another. At such times, the Tuhlen can become extremely violent, and if the rivalry is strong enough, blood feuds can form which last generations. It has only been in recent years that Tuhlen youth, having more exposure with the outside world, especially the Vadal kingdom, have craved the creation of a king with a properly established government.
