Magic Wastes

The Magic Wastes is an utterly forsaken and desolate land that stretches between the towers of Kresek and Myrich. These rival priesthoods, in their zeal to annihilate each other, managed, with overuse, abuse, and misuse of magic, to deaden the land so that no living thing can survive of thrive there. There is no plant life, no animals who require vegetation; nor are there grubs or insects that one would commonly find in soil. The area is completely dead, and even the efforts of the Orders of Jehiel and Chiel have been in vain. Indeed, none can say whether this damage is irrevocable. As the centuries have passed, however, more and more people are believing it is. A strange race of giantish people once lived on the fertile plains that are no wasteland, but they were driven from it when the priesthoods destroyed the land. Their descendants are scattered across the Endless Plains to the east and among the foothills of the Silver Mountains in the south. They are known as Roc, and even the Arkastanai sages cannot explain their origins, or indeed what they are. Some say part-dwarf part-human, while others claim they have Elf in them, and still others Nohr. What is known is how much they despise magic and will destroy any item of magic they find and kill anyone they see casting an arcane spell. They hate more than anyone the Orders of Kresek and Myrich for destroying their homeland.
