Horse Plains
Although now "Horse Plains" refers to all the land from the eastern reaches of the Briën Amir to the western shores of the Aras Arlluvia, and from the Grey River to the Fiery Peaks, the name was first devised to describe the much smaller ancestral lands inhabited by the Jarad when they split from the Ithacul upon coming into the West. Some sages place the original Horse Plains as the wide grasslands of rolling hills situated between the Swiftwater and the Fiery Peaks. Most of the Horse Plains is uninhabited and therefore quite boring. Most of the Jarad, when not traveling, live on the fertile pastures between the Swiftwater and the Fiery Peaks. They call that land Jaraluth, but when others caught wind of that word, they misunderstood it as their name for the whole region, and so "Jaraluth" in the non-Jarad mind is synonymous with that much wider land area. The Jarad are the masters of horses and are known colloquially as the Horse Lords. Jaraluth is the home of the finest horses on Chronikos. They are stronger, smarter, more well-bred, and better trained than any other kind of horse. Jarad horses are raised to be attuned to the minds of their masters, who are somewhat telepathic, and therefore are better behaved. A Jarad horse needs no tether, for example. Nor will it have the annoying characteristics of lesser-bred horses such as biting or continually stopping to graze. A Jarad horse is a rarity outside Jaraluth, but wherever it is encountered, it is peerless. A Jarad horse can sell for as high a price as 1200 gold. If it is trained in the arts of war, however, the price could go higher.
