Daggerwood
Daggerwood got its name for obvious reasons: it is a thieves' forest. Most of the forest is of course inhabited by mortals. The thieves live near the eastern border of the forest, but one might wonder why they live there at all, so far from the urban environment in which thieves thrive. No one can answer that question, though there have been attempts to do so. The most commonly-accepted theory is that they have situated themselves in a position to easily strike at caravans on the trade route that runs between the two forests. But critics of that theory maintain that the income from such raids would not be sufficient to support a clan of thieves. And even if they did steal large amounts of booty, how would they move it? The nearest city that is friendly to thieves and their stolen goods, Arinport, is over 500 miles away. Some say there is something in the forest that keeps them there. Perhaps there is a kind of Thief-King, if you will. What is known, however, is that the thieves do not venture far into the forest, for deep in the wood live pixies, sprites, and all other forms of magical creatures both mischievous and dangerous. The thieves tried to subdue these creatures when they first set up their base of operation in Daggerwood, but they paid dearly for their folly and learned it is best to leave such spirits alone.
