Aras Arlluvia

In the Elven tongue, Aras Arlluvia means "Sea of the Dawn." The Larenai Elves, however, live on its eastern shores, so one would logically assume it would be called "Sea of Sunset" or some such name. But when looks at Larenai history, one comes to understand why this is not so. All Elves awoke in the Brien Amir, but in time many left, and the greatest host to leave their ancestral forest home were the Larenai. They made their way east, searching for a new home, and after many years of wandering they came to the western shores of a boundless and dark sea. Gazing upon what appeared to be an infinity of water, the Elves grew afraid and did not understand what it meant. But for some inexplicable reason they camped that night on the shore, and when morning came, they rejoiced to see Anbar, the Sun, rising over the sea in the east. The brilliant and shimmering waters that morning greeted the Elven host with a promise of more wondrous things to be revealed. It was at that moment that the Larenai fell under the sea's enchantment, and as a race, they love the open sea and long to sail, and indeed they are the greatest of Chronikos' children at seacraft and shipbuilding. Standing on the western shore of the wide expanse, Vistari, the leader of the host, named the sea the Aras Arlluvia. The Men of Godswatch call the inner sea Galadrin's Sky, for they believe the God of Waters lives in the depths, so the surface of the sea is to him a sky.
